Tools & Upgrades
I decided to add a page detailing the tool upgrades I've made in the last several years. When I first outfitted my new shop, it was mostly with entry level tools. And while most of them held up pretty well over the years, some began to wear and show their age, or couldn't handle some of the projects I needed them for now. So I slowly tried to replace those in question with better quality tools. I'll also detail some upgrades I made to both old and new tools and explain why I thought those upgrades were necessary, or if not actually necessary, at least why made them.

My Latest Tool Purchases:
Laguna Revo 18-36 Lathe
Grizzly GO833P Table Saw
Grizzly GO555XH Resaw Bandsaw

Tool Upgrades:

Shelix Cutterheads:
I upgraded my jointer and planer with Shelix Cutterheads

Varible Speed Lathe Motor
Besided my large lathe I have a small Delta midi lathe (it was actually my first lathe). I didn't use it very often, but at times it comes in handy when I have a project on the big lathe and need to make an extra part. I almost got rid of it, but decided to keep it (I'm glad I did!). Since I was going to keep it, I decided to upgrade the motor with a variable speed motor. It works great, but I'd like to have digital read-out for it. I bought one of those cheap ones, but it doesn't work. The guy claims it's an interferance issue with the motor (he tells me AFTER I purchased it!). So if anyone knows of a digital readout that works and is readonably priced, I'd be glad to hear from you.

Dust Collection Upgrades:
I finally upgraded the dust collection in my main shop 2024!
I have a Delta 50-760 Dust Collector in my flat wood area of the shop, and a separate smaller 2-stage in my lathe studio.
First I removed the old main line I installed 20 years ago that was suppose to be 'temporary'. At the time I had to do it on the cheap so I used 4" black corrugated tubing that's used for water run-off. I replaced it with 4" Schedule 40 PVC. I purchased some for a drainage project outside, and had just enough leftover for this.

Thien Baffle Top Hat Cyclone
The next upgrade I made to the dust collection system was to add a top hat cyclone with a Thien baffle and separate collection drum to my Delta 50-760 dust collector. Several years ago I upgraded the top felt bag with a pleated filter. I wanted to add the cyclone, but wasn't sure which style I wanted to use. Then the project went onto the back burner. Finally after needing to clean out the filter again, I decided it was time to add the cyclone. I made it with all parts I had on hand in the shop and so far it's working great..
